2009-2010 CLUB 201 EVENTS
Beethoven, Brahms & Beer at Brocach
Fri Oct 2 at Brocach Irish Pub
Celebrate a stunning season premiere as the MSO welcomes legendary pianist Peter Serkin to play Brahms’ exhilarating Piano Concerto No. 1. Beethoven opens the festivities and Richard Strauss’ monumental tone poem Death and Transfiguration sets the stage for Serkin. We’ll gather at Brocach Irish Pub after the concert for appetizers and a beer tasting by the stellar brewers at Ale Asylum. A new Club 201 Classic!
Club 201 Holiday Party
Fri Dec 4 at the Orpheum
The original Club 201 hit, our Holiday Party begins with John DeMain’s signature celebration, the Christmas Spectacular. Soprano Sylvia McNair co-hosts as the Madison Symphony Chorus, the Madison Youth Choirs and the Mt. Zion Gospel Choir join in for an evening that will set your holiday spirits soaring. The Orpheum hosts the after-concert party with appetizers and a sampling of great cocktail specials.
Rendezvous on the Rooftop
Fri Feb 5 at fresco
Pinchas Zukerman and his wife, the brilliant cellist Amanda Forsyth bring you a sampling of exotically spiced selections, including Bruch’s Hebraic Kol Nidrei, Mozart’s “Turkish” violin concerto and Saint-Saëns’ quintessentially French apéritif, The Muse and the Poet. The main course will be Saint-Saëns’ majestic Organ Symphony. Then we’ll rendezvous on the rooftop at fresco for appetizers and a sampling of special cocktails.
Russian Rhapsody
Fri April 16 at Ocean Grill
Three of the great Russian masters will make this a season finale to remember. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Russian Easter Overture sets the stage for one of the truly astonishing works for piano: Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Then Metropolitan Opera Bass-Baritone will embody the doomed Czar Boris Godunov. The after-concert delights include seafood selections and organic vodka at Ocean Grill.
