Concert on the Green (June)

Concert on the Green features a competitive golf outing, cocktail party, concert and gourmet picnic dinner at Bishops Bay Country Club every year in June. Planning usually begins in January.
Volunteer positions include:
sponsorship • marketing • event contracts • golf chair
sweepstakes • décor • guest registration • “day of” coordinator
table set-up • registration table

Symphony Gala (September)

The Symphony Gala is a fundraiser and formal dinner event that features the presentation of the John DeMain Award for Outstanding Commitment to Music. This award is presented annually by the MSOL to recognize an individual(s) for their longstanding and unwavering support of the League, the Madison Symphony Orchestra and music in the community. The music at this event is central to the program featuring pre-dinner, during dinner and after dinner music by three different entertainment groups. It is held every September on the Friday before the first MSO season performance. For those who cannot commit to monthly meetings, volunteering on the day of the event is very much appreciated and really fun! Planning usually begins in March.

Arts Ball (November)

The Arts Ball is a marriage of 45+ years between the Madison Symphony Orchestra and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. This joint fundraiser is an evening of gourmet food and drink, dancing, silent auction and raffle where old friends of both organizations socialize and where new friends are made.
This event takes a full year to organize, so volunteers are always welcome at any time of year to help with:

Holiday Open House (December)

The Holiday party is a festive dinner party in December.
Volunteer positions include:
• invitation copy and mailing
• guest registration
• coordination with host.

Membership Luncheons (Spring, Fall, Mid-Winter)

The Spring and Fall Luncheons include a musical performance in addition to a three-course meal.
Volunteer positions include:
• invitation copy and mailing
• guest registration
• securing and coordinating food and beverage with venue
• selecting/coordinating featured music performer

The Mid-Winter luncheon is an afternoon of fellowship between new and renewed acquaintances while enjoying a gourmet lunch and an engaging program.

assisting with program arrangements • reservations • greeting

Parties of Note

Parties of Note are small parties, typically for 20-30 guests, with unique themes and venues. There are approximately 12 Parties of Note throughout the year. Planning typically begins in May or June.
Volunteer positions include:
• event brainstorming and planning
• host recruitment
• guest registration
• writing, producing and mailing the Parties of Note “Passports.”

MSOL news and information is included in a page in the MSO’s Score newsletter that comes out four times a year. Additionally, the MSOL maintains a dedicated Facebook page and prepares special emails and announcements for members.
Volunteer positions include:
• creating content/posting on social media
• taking photos at MSOL events that we can use in our communications
• producing special emails
• drafting copy for the Score

Volunteer positions include:
• providing snacks for Concert Previews
• docents to help prepare elementary school students for the Fall Youth Concert (Oct / Nov)
• room monitors for the Student Concerto Competition Auditions (September and December)
• ushers for the Fall Youth Concert in November, the Spring Young People's Concert in Spring, and the Symphony Soup and Link Up concerts in May

MSOL Board

MSOL Board members meet once a month (except in July) to oversee the activities and initiatives related to our mission to support the artistic, education and financial goals of the MSO. The new board is nominated in the spring and voted on by the membership at the spring luncheon and annual meeting in May.
Board members are involved with:
• membership engagement and recruitment
• communicating to membership
• handling the budget and investments
• organizing various friend and fund-raising events
• supporting MSO Education activities throughout the year
