THE AUDITION PROCESS
Auditions for the chorus last seven to eight minutes. Singers will be vocalized a bit to help check singing range. Singer will be asked to sing a familiar song (i.e. "My Country, 'Tis of Thee, "Happy Birthday," etc.) and to sing back some four-note melodies that include various intervals that are played for you, and finally to do some sight reading. There is no need to prepare solo repertoire or bring an accompanist. Singers are typically notified within a few days of the result of the audition.
Once admitted to the Chorus, members are expected to participate for the full season. Members are allowed a very limited number of missed rehearsals per year. Details are explained at the first rehearsal.
Chorus rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Wisconsin Studio at Overture Center. Additional evening rehearsals are required the week of performances with the Symphony.
Whenever possible, the Chorus schedules Open Sings in which a substantial choral work is read through. Members of the community are invited to attend and participate. It is the Chorus's way of reaching out to the greater Madison area music community to share in their love of choral singing.
